Frequency of watering in my gardening is something I’ve come to appreciate recently. Now that I work full time from home, I water my houseplants plants much more frequently than I used to. And it’s an amazing difference in their health. I have always been concerned about them however I now have more time to nurture and care for them. Instead of weekly or bi-weekly waterings I now keep my eye on them and water them when they need it not when my schedule permits Well holy Hannah, the results amaze me. Plants that have been alive and healthy, but relatively stunted are now flourishing. To see this is pretty cool I gotta admit! And it brings me back to them again and agin to admire them and nurture them some more

So I’ve learned that responsive rather than only scheduled nurturing is important for vibrant plant growth. I think about this in relation to my kids primarily in terms of quality versus quantity of time we spend together. I could spend one hour of quality time a week with them in one sitting or snippets of time throughout the week. I think the snippets of time are really important too. When I do that I am more in tune with them and the subtleties of what’s going on in their lives. I then can determine when I need to give them more attention or more room to grow.

As a parent (leader) in my home, I need to have schedules that connect our family. In our house that is by far meal times. Daily and of course Sunday night mandatory supper! However it is the little bits of nurturing here and there that are key. When I do the girls hair, have coffee or quick chat with the boys or sit on the deck and have the kids come and go with their questions, theses are the snippets that make the difference. And holy Hannah my kids grow and flourish right under my eyes.
